Philips closes two factories and runs in stock problems at other
Published January 30th, 2006 in LG, Philips
While in a previous post I wrote about the closing of two CRT factories of LG.Philips (LG Philips closes two subsidaries; Eindoven and Aachen) another factory has difficulties today. The production has temporary stopped in Hranice (Czech). In this factory work 1300 employees.
The problem is that there is a shortage on components to build the tubes. A clear reason for this shortage was not at hand today. Whether there is a direct relation with the closing of the two factories mentioned above is also not clear.
The factory in Hranice should produce three million CRT’s per year. This location is one of the largest foreign investments in the Czech Republic.
Update: The Dutch factories of LG. Philips in Sittard, Stadskanaal and Eindhoven started again with less employees. Of the nearly 500 employees in these three facilities 215 lost their job. The other employees have started again yesterday.
The receiver Mr. Deterink needs to decide this week on the factories in Czech Republic (1200 employees), Slowakia (50) and Mexico (1300). The Czech goverenment wants to keep the factory in Hranice open.
